The Race Round the Padang (RRTP) is a unique ground running event that combines heritage and sports. This project aims to capture the rich history and heritage of Singapore. The main idea is to harness the appeal of sports to raise awareness, knowledge and establish an emotive connection to the historical monuments, their meaning and relevance to who we are and what we have today. This project is a relay race around the Padang involving teams of 4.
The relay resembles how our forefathers worked together to build this nation. Each participant will complete a full round around the Padang before handing over the baton to a teammate within an exchange zone. One round the Padang will past at least 13 historical monuments of Singapore (e.g., City Hall, Former Parliament House etc.). The organiser aims to leverage on these monuments to share key moments in history that shaped Singapore. The timings of teams will be captured and ranked, and teams can look forward to returning to better their times as the organiser plans to bring this event back on an annual basis.
The end-state is a challenging yet achievable event for all to participate in, and a resonance of National Pride and Singapore Spirit upon completion. Using Sports as an enabler to develop our people, bond our communities.
