Car free Sunday April

The Civic and Central Business District will be transformed into a cycle-friendly, walkable and activity-filled public space with something for everyone at the next Car-Free Sunday SG on 24 April 2016. The streets will come alive for families, joggers and cyclists who can look forward to activities ranging from fitness group exercises, kid-friendly activities to a breakfast picnic.

For this thrid installment of the initiative, roads will be closed from 7.30am to 10am. The walking, running and cycling route will now include Esplanade Drive, forming a 5km car-free stretch – comprising St Andrew’s Road, Stamford Road, Esplanade Drive, Fullerton Road, Shenton Way and Robinson Road.  Connaught Drive will also be closed from 7.30am to 7pm to host a variety of community sporting events and activities.

Safe Riders Pledge Launch

Calling all walkers, cyclists and personal mobility device users! Come pledge your support towards happy and friendly sharing of spaces among different path users. Join the Active Mobility Advisory Panel, led by chairman Associate Professor Muhammad Faishal Ibrahim, as they launch the Safe Riders Pledge right before the flag off. Be sure to collect your pledge band at the Safe Rider Booth later.

Think you are a safe rider? Put your riding habits to the test at our specially designed course. Safe for kids and adults alike, have fun as you tackle situations in daily life. Tchoukball

Tchoukball (pronounced chukeball) is a unique non–contact yet competitive sport which allows every participant to be able to enjoy and play together, regardless of gender, size or ability. It is known as a Sport For All.

 

This exciting sport can be played, indoor, outdoor and even on the beach setting. It develops motor skills, hand-eye co-ordination and improves fitness and agility. Developed by Swiss physician Dr Hermann Brandt in 1970s, it combines the best elements of handball, netball and volleyball!

 

Tchoukball advocates a cooperative spirit between both teams, playing down the individual achievement (pride) and emphasising on the collective gains. Other Tchoukball values include Respect, Teamwork, Fair play, Discipline, Determination & Perseverance to succeed.

The Monument Trail starts at Cavenagh Bridge near the mouth of the Singapore River, once the heart of Singapore's commercial activity and entrepôt trade, and brings you through Empress Place and Esplanade Park before ending at War Memorial Park.

Victoria Concert Hall, Home of the SSO brings you a series of free performances by various ensembles in conjunction with Car-Free Sunday held in the Civic District! Kicking off with Korean popular music in April, we present Singaporean music arranger and flutist Sin Jin How. Together with harpist Sarah Wong, be serenaded by tunes from hit Korean dramas Descendants of the Sun and My Love from the Stars as well as compositions by Yiruma.
