When it came to selecting a venue for this year’s The Straits Times Run at the Hub, we only had one wish – to return to the Sports Hub.
The recent SEA Games merely reinforced our desire to go back to the one place that is now synonymous with sports and creating sporting memories in Singapore. The National Stadium was the source of so much excitement and joy during Games. We saw examples of great athletic feats, and I am sure it will be no different in September. You might not win a medal or break a national record, but just ending in such an iconic venue will spur many on to do their personal bests.
This is the third instalment of the ST Run. We were at Punggol Waterway for the inaugural one in 2013 and made our National Stadium debut in 2014, as the first mass run to end under the National Stadium’s iconic domed roof. All three editions have been backed by our kind sponsor, electronic giants Panasonic.
But as with all runners, we always strive on getting better. So in addition to returning to the Hub, we will be introducing new elements to make this year’s event the best experience yet.
The introduction of a new 18.45km category, to mark the 170th anniversary of The Straits Times and the year it was founded, will give runners a thrill as we take you through time, via music, images and headlines from the ST all these years.
Runners will also get to enjoy much of the scenic city landscape that over 22,000 participants enjoyed last year, passing landmarks such as the Singapore Flyer and Marina Bay.
But running is not all one can look forward to. In addition to many prizes for early registration and for those finishing in the top positions of their categories, each participant will stand a chance to win a Land Rover Discovery Sport.
So what are you waiting for. Join us for an unforgettable experience on Sept 27!
