Sporting community comes together to celebrate, cheer on as One Team Singapore
Members of the Singapore sporting community were gathered at the Istana on Tuesday evening (March 26), as part of a celebratory dinner reception hosted by President Halimah Yacob.

The event, organised for the Team Singapore contingents who represented Singapore at the five major overseas games last year, paid tribute to not only the efforts of our athletes, but also the people in the local sporting ecosystem - including caregivers, officials, coaches, as well as members of the Singapore National Olympic Council (SNOC), Singapore National Paralympic Council (SNPC), Sport Singapore and Singapore Sport Institute (SSI)and Singapore Disability Sports Council (SDSC).
The President made mention to the sportsmen and women who flew the flag and gave inspiring performances in the 23rd Winter Olympics, 21st Commonwealth Games, 18th Asian Games, 3rd Asian Para Games and the 3rd Summer Youth Olympics.
"Beyond the medal achievements, Team Singapore has inspired us with your perseverance and fighting spirit. I would like to take this opportunity to recognise the efforts of the people behind the scenes, the "team behind the team", who work tirelessly to support our athletes in their training and development... Thank you for the important roles you play in nurturing and developing our athletes - they would not be here without your support," said President Halimah in her address.

Guests were treated to an evening of food and music, as well as an opportunity to interact with the President herself, along with other guests-of-honour, including Speaker of Parliament and President of SNOC, Mr Tan Chuan-Jin, Senior Minister of State (Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth), Ms Sim Ann and Senior Parliamentary Secretary (Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth), Mr Baey Yam Keng.

For swimmer and 2018 Asian Para Games gold medallist Toh Wei Soong, attending the event was an honour but more importantly, a reminder to always be looking forward: "I tend not to linger too much on my successes because there is always something else around the corner. I'm happy that para-sports is now recognised more by the Singapore public and I think it is just as great a realm as abled-bodied sports, with tremendous messages of hope and perseverance. That is another thing that is driving me because I realised how strong our voices can be."
