She stole the show on a night which saw two of the world’s best mixed martial artists face off in the 2013 ONE Fighting Championship. In front of a rapturous crowd of 12,000 at the Singapore Indoor Stadium, Singapore’s Sherilyn Lim emerged victorious with a split decision victory after three rounds against Malaysia’s Ann Osman after both fighters had exchanged periods of dominance during the fight.

The debutant captured the hearts of many that evening, and fans can look forward to a rematch with her causeway rival Ann Osman when they go head to head at ONE FC: WAR OF NATIONS on 14 March 2014 in Kuala Lumpur, with Lim looking to defeat Osman definitively to cement her position as the most talented female mixed martial artist in Asia.

On the much anticipated match Sherilyn insisted it was just like any other match and brushed off talk of added rivalry because of the countries involved. She said, “Every fight is a fight and that’s what it is. In every sport, there is going to be somebody for people to root for. Regardless of the crowd reaction, I’m ready to roll and prove myself.”

Live without regrets

Having helped start the Muay Thai club during her time at Singapore Polytechnic, Sherilyn is fuelled by her passion to live without regrets in her decision to become a ONE FC fighter.

“I’m young and physically able, I believe in going out there to chase your dreams,” she quipped.

Adding that female mixed martial arts is an evolution that is finally gaining acceptance over time, Sherilyn believes the society has changed which has seen women take on more roles.

“More often than not it’s a subjective perspective, maybe even selective. Slowly as people open up their minds to the idea of female MMA fighters and start noticing them, then the awareness grows,” she added.
