Quick and effective workouts for 2020

The perennial reply that you probably give for not exercising is usually a curt “no time”. That could change pretty soon though as there is a whole host of workouts out there that actually do not take up too much of your time (surprise). The modern human being is extremely demanding when it comes to giving up their time, even for stuff that they actually desire. Think food and grocery delivery services, car hailing and even online content consumption patterns. Everything has to be fast, and that includes fitness workouts.

Here are some relatively quick and efficient workouts that you can consider if time is a factor for you.

High intensity interval training or HIIT is a form of cardio exercise done in short, intense bursts that aims to maximise athletic performance under conditions where the muscles are deprived of oxygen. HIIT makes it easier to hit the desired number of cardio hours that you need to clock because it is far more time-efficient.

Tabata is a form of HIIT workout and was developed by Dr. Izumi Tabata and a team of researchers from the National Institute of Fitness and Sports in Tokyo. In short, they conducted research on two groups of athletes, making one group go through moderate intensity workouts while the other group underwent high intensity workouts. The result was that the group that underwent high intensity but shorter workouts showed more improvement in terms of aerobic (cardiovascular) and anaerobic (muscle) systems.


Mega-what you ask? To begin with, the equipment itself was invented in the early 2000s by a fitness expert named Sebastien Lagree. The workout itself has been described as Pilates on steroids, and difficult and mysterious by others. However, celebrities like Meghan Markle, Khloé Kardashian, and Chrissy Teigen swear by it. So, what exactly does Megaformer do?

In layman terms, the Megaformer is a spring-based resistance trainer, and it is designed to work your entire body from all angles, especially your core muscles, according to Lagree Fitness's website. It is an incredibly effective machine that works the body in a low-impact but at the same time, intense manner.

Active Health 60-seconds challenge

According to Active Health, all you need is a minimum of 60-seconds a day to start making small positive changes to your life. 60 seconds can pass in the blink of an eye but so much can be achieved in that short period of time.

To put it in context, more than 65,000 photos would have been uploaded on Instagram and Usain bolt would have covered 745 meters on the track in just 60 seconds! Now imagine what you can achieve in terms of your personal fitness in that same span of time.
