Junior Singaporean racer Christian Ho ended his race weekend on the top step of the podium at the Deutsche Kart Meisterschaft (DKM) German Karting Championship in Genk, Belgium, becoming the first ever Singaporean and Asian driver to do so. Ho finished in first place throughout the entire weekend (2-4 August), from qualifying to both final races. The DKM is one of the biggest karting series in Europe and attracts the best karting talent from around the world, counting racing greats Michael Schumacher, Sebastian Vettel and Robert Kubica as past winners.

“It was a perfect weekend for me and I’m incredibly proud to be the first ever Singaporean to win a race in the DKM German Karting Championship series. I could not have done it without the support from my family and the Ricky Flynn Motorsport Karting team.”

“The win is a major milestone in my karting career and I look to carry the momentum into the rest of the 2019 season. It is challenging to compete at the international level but I hope that my victory inspires other young Singaporeans to believe in themselves and to pursue their dreams,” added Ho.

Apart from Ho’s most recent victory in Genk, 2019 has been a milestone year for him where he achieved a series of firsts. Ho was the first Singaporean to win a heat at the World Series Karting (WSK) Super Masters Series in Adria, Italy, in February, eventually finishing the weekend as the highest-ranked Asian driver. Building on the momentum from his race in Adria, Christian continued to impress at the DKM in Lonato, Italy where Christian wrapped up the weekend with podium finishes in two finals (second and third place) out of 198 drivers. He is the first Asian to finish on the podium at this event.

A go-kart experience on a family holiday in Phuket at the tender age of seven was all it took to ignite an unwavering passion to achieve his goal of becoming a professional racing driver. It has been just over a year since 12-year-old Christian Ho and his parents moved to Milan, Italy, to pursue a full-time racing career and the young driver is steadily closing the gap on his dream to race professionally in the future.

After moving up to the Junior category in April 2018, he achieved success at his debut race in the bigger and faster junior karts by finishing first in qualifying at the X30 South East Asia event in Sepang, Malaysia. By the end of 2018, Christian had earned a place in the elite Ricky Flynn Motorsport Karting Team which counts current Formula One driver Lando Norris as part of its alumni.

Ho’s next race will be at the World Championship in Finland, Alaharma from 4 to 8 September.
