The ever popular OCBC Cycle, an annual mass participation cycling event with close to 7000 riders taking part this year is in the running for the Best Asian Cycling Event. Other nominees in the category include Tour de Bintan and L'Etape Thailand by Tour de France.

The MPW Awards will be held on 3 December, on the second day of the fourth edition of the three-day Mass Participation World Conference (formerly MPA) at the Hilton Singapore Hotel. Other events in Singapore that made the list include the Spartan Race and the MetaSprint Series.

The brand-new Awards programme was introduced to create a peer-reviewed initiative to recognise the best events and initiatives in the industry in Asia. The finalists for the nine award categories were selected based on data collected via three channels – self and industry award nomination; anonymous industry expert nomination; and information taken from the inaugural MPW participant and industry survey. The eligibility period for nomination was for events staged between 1 October 2018 and 30 September 2019. More information on the awards can be found here.

Having determined the nominees, the finalists from each award category along with a panel of industry leaders will now cast their votes and the nominee with the most votes will win the award. The winner of the Event of the Year Award at MPW will also be recognised by the Sports Industry Asia Awards in Manila as their Mass Participation Event of the Year.

“I am thrilled today to announce the finalists for the first MPW Asian Industry Awards, where the best events and initiatives in Asia will be recognised and rewarded for their superb efforts. The overall event winners from each category will be judged on their embodiment of key elements such as overall engagement, best practice and social impact. This is an exciting new undertaking and one that we are very much looking forward to see grow globally from next year to ultimately recognise mass participation events worldwide,”said Chris Robb, co-founder and CEO of Mass Participation World.
