The Sauber Karting Team was created in conjunction with Italian kart manufacturer, Kart Republic, where Chiesa is the owner and manager. The new team was launched in March 2019 and Chiesa was appointed as the Team Principal. As part of the Sauber Motorsport group which also manages the Alfa Romeo F1 team, the new karting team was formed to nurture young top-level racers and provide a clear path of progression from karting to Formula One.

Ho has had a breakthrough year where he finished as vice-champion of the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) Karting Academy Trophy and DKM German Karting Series. Ho is also the first Asian to finish in the Top 3 of these two championship series.

Ho made his debut for the Sauber Karting Team at the first round of the WSK Open Cup, a karting series based in Italy which attracts top drivers from around the world. Ho finished 5th at the South Garda Karting Circuit in Lonato, and will look forward to racing the final round in the series in Castelletto di Branduzz.

“It's been a positive first week end for me with the Sauber Karting Team. I gradually built my confidence with the team and the chassis during free practice and made it to qualify 2nd overall on Friday (25 October). I have to say I'm really happy with the Kart Republic chassis; it has a lot of grip, so it feels really good to drive, and also the IAME engine feels very good. I'm happy to be part of this team; Dino and Richard helped me a lot this weekend, so I think we have good potential for the future,” said Ho after his first race with his new team from 25-27 October in Lonato.

Team Principal of the Sauber Karting Team, Dino Chiesa said: “We started working with some new drivers from this week end, also integrating OKJ in our Sauber program, with driver Christian Ho. They all had a very good week end, and Ho did great from qualifying, proving we have good potential for next year. We feel we raised our level up in OKJ!”

Frédéric Vasseur, CEO Sauber Motorsport AG said: “Launching the Sauber Karting Team in collaboration with Kart Republic is a great step in the expansion of our activities. It is in our company’s DNA to support young talents. This new project allows us to contribute to the next generation of drivers by providing them with a platform which will help them to develop their skills in the best possible way. With Dino Chiesa as Team Principal, the Sauber Karting Team is fortunate to have a highly experienced professional taking the lead. We look forward to seeing this project thrive.”

Ho is the first ever Singaporean to be in a Formula One affiliated team racing program (Sauber Motorsport AG), similar to those offered at McLaren, Ferrari, Mercedes, Redbull and Renault.
