On a bright and sunny Saturday morning, more than 600 parents and their children were on hand for the 2019 Switzerland Singapore Football Festival at the Float @ Marina Bay. The juniors competed in the Under-12 category against each other and were cheered on by the coaches, parents and fans. Hailing from 17 local and international schools as well as ActiveSG's Football Academy, the youths displayed exceptional skills as they played to their hearts content.

Jointly organised by the Embassy of Switzerland and ActiveSG since 2017, the festival aimed to bring children of diverse backgrounds together to foster cultural and social exchange. Ms Sim Ann, Senior Minister of State for Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth & Ministry of Communications and Information, was the Guest-Of-Honour at the Festival.

Together with Swiss Ambassador to Singapore, Fabrice Filliez, they cheered the young players on during the tournament. He said, “Football fosters team spirit, communication skills, and a sense of belonging. As a football fan myself, I believe the tournament contributes to building stronger social and cultural bonds between players and supporters on the field. We couldn't be happier about our collaboration with Sport SG, who bring a great deal of experience in facilitating sports events for children and appreciate our long-term partnership".

Lai Chin Kwang, Chief of ActiveSG at Sport Singapore added, "We're happy to partner the Embassy of Switzerland to offer our youth opportunities to gain more exposure and play with people of different backgrounds. ActiveSG Football Academy works with likeminded partners to offer our young Singaporean players values-based sport development. Most importantly, these young players get to meet new friends and create valuable shared memories".

Looking at last weekend's tournament proper, the Football Association of Singapore (FAS) Under-12 Girls Development Squad successfully defended their championship for the 3rd year consecutively. And the Under-12 Boys from NPS International School bagged the title of U-12 Champions. Telok Kurau Primary and ActiveSG Football Academy finished in second and third spots respectively for the U-12 Girls category, while teams Sporting CP and F17 Academy also finished second and third place respectively for the U-12 Boys category.
