The Singapore Slingers are back in business after emerging as winners in a rip-roaring match against the Saigon Heat on Sunday (January 27) at the OCBC Arena.
Neo Beng Siang’s men survived a second-half scare as they nearly squandered a 25 point lead, which Neo described as “unacceptable”, but the team eventually beat the visitors with a score of 87-80.
“We were not playing together, when things weren’t going well we stopped playing defence. This is what we’ll have to work on, making sure that everyone is on the same page on what we need to do,” said Neo.
The home team went into the third period leading 51 to 29 but conceded 33 points before putting the game to bed in the final quarter.

Slingers’ forward Xavier Alexander scored a game high of 25 points, while teammates John Fields and Delvin Goh both tallied double-doubles (20 points, 21 rebounds; 11 points, 10 rebounds respectively).
Coach Neo said of his team’s winning performance: “We came out really aggressive, with everybody running the floor and sharing the ball it set up a good tempo for us in the first half.”
“We’ll still need to work out what went wrong as a team, and from there make adjustments to hopefully come out stronger next Sunday.”
Slingers will go against the CLS Knights in the next home game on Sunday, February 3 at 4pm. Click here to purchase tickets and catch the Singapore Slingers live in action.
