From reducing the risk of chronic diseases to helping us maintain our cognitive functions as we age, the benefits of being active are exceptional. Staying committed to being active and healthy might sound daunting, but a journey of a thousand miles must begin with a single step. So, here are some activities that you can incorporate into your daily routine that is sure to make a difference to your well-being!

Walking

Instead of driving or taking the public transport to nearby places, consider walking instead. Walking is a great way to strengthen bones and aid weight loss, among other numerous advantages. If you need the extra motivation, invite a family member along or listen to your favourite songs!

Taking the stairs

Taking the stairs is cost-effective and exceptionally good for you! You will be working hard to push your body against gravity, but this simple exercise helps to fight stress, tone thighs and reduces the risk of osteoporosis in working adults.

Pilates

Pilates focuses on building your core muscles, while enhancing flexibility and posture. Pilates is meant for beginners and athletes alike, and you’re sure to find a suitable routine which strengthens your body and challenges you at the same time.

Aqua Aerobics

If your joints are a concern for you, aqua aerobics is definitely something you should consider! Water serves as a built-in resistance and reduces the impact of gravity, so you’ll be able to get a beneficial workout without straining your joints. It’s a win-win situation!

Zumba

Zumba is the perfect way to incorporate music and exercise! It is a workout which tones the entire body and improves your coordination through dancing and calisthenics. While Zumba is usually high-intensity, it is easy for beginners to follow through!

Replenishing the nutrients in our body after exercising is equally as important as the workout itself. Drinking milk has proven to increase muscle gains as it is an important source of protein and it is perfect for hydration especially since it contains electrolytes!

So the next time you work out, don’t forget to have a glass of milk afterwards.
