Sport Singapore welcomes its second batch of brand ambassadors! They are your everyday people, tackling the same demands of life as you do, but SportSG's newest sport and fitness influencers also hold a strong belief that sport can inspire us to live better. Get to know them in our feature series here!

Participating in Spartan races, weekend runs, CrossFit events, and gym workouts, Natalie Dau can be seen as a breathing embodiment of Sport Singapore’s “live better through sport” motto.

Now, as a SportSG brand ambassador, she hopes to encourage more Singaporeans to jump on the active train with her.

“I definitely believe that fitness should be a part of everyone’s lives. [You] don’t have to be competing every week, but just [maintaining] a healthy lifestyle [is important],” said Natalie.

Having grown up with parents who encouraged an active lifestyle, and being a parent herself, Natalie feels a conducive family environment is crucial in integrating fitness into one’s everyday life.

“[Performing physical activities together] is a real shared experience, you don’t get [the same bond] by talking about a computer game that you’re playing,” the mother of a nine-year-old stated.

The responsibilities of being a parent has never stood in the way of her fitness goals either.

On a typical weekday, she would go on a morning run before getting her daughter ready for school.

After which, she would head for her second workout, and start work from her home office by 9am.

Though waking up at 5am every day for a workout can sound like a chore, the 45-year-old stresses that the key is to set small, achievable goals.

“I always say just set daily goals, don’t even think about a year’s time, just get through it day by day. It’s small changes and small wins, rather than thinking about something that’s just too huge and overbearing,” Natalie advised.

She also noted that getting active is easy in Singapore, especially with ActiveSG offering many affordable or even free programmes for local residents.

In fact, her daughter Lilliana takes part in weekly sessions with the ActiveSG Basketball Academy, which Natalie describes as “amazing and cost-effective”.

Recently, the qualified personal and group trainer also released a free app, the Rockstar Fit App, which aims to help her followers exercise anywhere, anytime with her workout routines.

“My passion is bringing fitness to everyone. I want to be able to get the message out to people that they don’t need to be a member of an expensive gym to be fit, [and] there are these free activities that [SportSG] offers,” she expressed.

“[I knew that SportSG] was promoting different sports throughout the community, trying to get people more active and involved, and having fun was key. When I was approached to become an ambassador, I was super thrilled and honoured,” Natalie shared.

Natalie added that although she has encountered many inspiring individuals throughout her fitness journey, and it was usually the “regular” people that had the best stories.

“I think it’s not necessarily super sports stars who are inspiring, [rather] it’s people that have these amazing everyday stories, who have overcome obstacles, just [to] get moving, and be the best versions of themselves,” she revealed.

“I would love to uncover more of those stories through this role and help inspire others through them,” she said.

As a fitness trainer, parent, and admittedly one of the older SportSG ambassadors, Natalie will be looking forward to reaching out to the masses, regardless of age or fitness background.

“I [used to think] my target audience were those [aged] over 40, because I’m over 40! But I’ve realised that age doesn’t really matter,” she said, having only left her corporate job to focus on her passion and fitness lifestyle about five years ago.

“I would just like to inspire everyday people, people of all ages, and families to go out there – it’s never too late to live a healthy lifestyle!” Natalie pointed out.
