Manchester United sneaked into the last 16 via a controversial Fellaini goal while Aguero's late equaliser also sent the blue half of Manchester through. Elsewhere, holders Real Madrid and Juventus also made it through to the next round.

UEFA Champions League group phase results:

  • AEK Athens 0 Ajax 2
  • Bayern Munich 5 Benfica 1
  • Lyon 2 Manchester City 2
  • Hoffenheim 2 Shakhtar Donetsk 3
  • CSKA Moscow 1 Viktoria Plzen 2
  • Roma 0 Real Madrid 2
  • Juventus 1 Valencia 0
  • Manchester United 1 Young Boys 0

Editor's thoughts: Wow, not quite sure what to feel right now. Struggling against Young Boys at home and then scoring a late controversial goal thanks to unlikely hero Maroune Fellaini. And of course, Jose had to take the spotlight away by destroying a crate of beverages on the sidelines. Firstly, there was more than a hint of handball by Fellaini who looked to use his hand to control the ball before taking the shot. And talking about over reacting, what did the water bottles do to Jose to suffer that fate? Says a lot about a manager who is under immense pressure to react in the manner he did. Perhaps its time for Rui Faria to return to the fold?
