WTA Finals Singapore: Three years and counting

From showcasing top-level tennis action right here on our shores, to hitting the sweet spot between fan interaction and community engagement, the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) Finals has certainly enriched the tennis scene here in Singapore.

Ahead of the fourth instalment of the prestigious competition at the Singapore Indoor Stadium this month, let’s relive some of the highlights from previous years!

When else do we get to see the likes of Serena Williams, Simona Halep, Maria Sharapova, and Garbine Muguruza gracing our local courts? With top-notch tennis action and intensely competitive matches on display, the WTA Finals has been a dream come true for Singapore’s tennis fans and sports enthusiasts alike. In fact, the event trophy’s namesake, Billie Jean King, also made an appearance at the inaugural edition of the Finals, much to the delight of all the fans present.

Inspiration for the strong women of tomorrow

More than just a competition for the sport’s very best, the WTA Finals is also aimed at bringing the sport of tennis closer to the community and inspiring students – girls, in particular.

Each year’s edition is always accompanied by engagement sessions put together for SportCares youths and schools. The event’s organisers have definitely succeeded in inspiring a new generation of strong women!

Precious experience for local ballkids

With intense tennis action comes the need for well-trained ballkids. Ahead of each year’s WTA Finals, aspiring youth tennis players island-wide get the opportunity to train and try out for these coveted spots as ballkids. The best-performing ones are selected to service the WTA stars on the court – experiencing first-hand some top tennis action.

Valuable exposure for young players with the WTA Future Stars

Apart from getting to watch the matches, top junior players across Asia have also gotten the opportunity to compete in the prestigious competition as well, as part of the WTA Future Stars! Certainly, it appears that this exposure has been beneficial, as one of the tournament’s alumni, Charmaine Seah, went on to represent Singapore at the SEA Games this year!

Family-friendly fun for fans

What’s a well-rounded experience without the fun? The WTA Fan Zone, held yearly alongside the on-court tennis action, brings just that. With a range of tennis-themed games and activities for fans and families, the fair also features merchandise booths, giveaways, and photo opportunities suitable for all ages.
