The Jr. National Basketball Association (NBA) clinic has returned to Singapore for the second year running, much to the delight of some 600 young fans in Singapore.

Under the tutelage of Jr. NBA coach Chris Sumner, the children were led through a series of drills over the weekend at Our Tampines Hub.
The free clinic, which was run in partnership with Sport Singapore, trained the participants in the fundaments of basketball such as dribbling, shooting and passing.
Team Singapore basketballer Ng Han Bin also helped out at the clinic as a coach where he instructed the children on the finer points of basketball drills.
Jr. NBA is part of NBA’s global youth development programme that promotes basketball participation and active lifestyles among youths – common goals shared by the ActiveSG Basketball Academy.
Neo Beng Siang, Principal of the ActiveSG Basketball Academy
, said this partnership would be beneficial to Singapore’s basketball scene.
“A lot of people know about NBA. It is a very huge brand in the U.S. so hopefully it can help the ActiveSG Basketball Academy as well,” he said.
“We need to first draw their attention. By going through this Jr. NBA programme, more kids will love it and take part and love the sport.

“Hopefully, more kids will take part in our academy and we can groom kids from the ActiveSG academy to become our national players in the future.”
For kids and parents who missed out on the open clinics, don’t fret.
While the open clinics are over, there is still the Regional Training Programme coming up, starting from 1st July to 6th August.
Similar to the open clinics, the programme is free, and it will be held once a week over six weeks at Choa Chu Kang and Pasir Ris Sports Centre.
The top 200 youths (10 – 14 year old) from the Regional Training Programme will be selected to participate in the Jr. NBA National Training Camp in August. After which, the top 16 boys and girls from the national camp will get the opportunity to participate in an overseas trip later in the year.
