Team Nila, a national volunteer movement spearheaded by Sport Singapore, celebrated their second anniversary on 18 Feb through a "Fun Day" gathering.
Graced by Parliamentary Secretary for the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth Baey Yam Keng, the event was the largest gathering of Team Nila volunteers since the 28th SEA Games and 8th ASEAN Para Games.

To volunteer Budi Wu Hao Lin, who volunteers on a regular basis, a mass gathering of Team Nila volunteers was one to behold and cherish.
"It’s a great opportunity for the whole Team Nila family to meet again," said the 35-year-old.
“After the SEA Games and APG, we only had smaller scale events where not everyone had the chance to participate. But today, everyone is back to have fun together through playing the kampung games.”
The full-time programmer had been with Team Nila since its inauguration and had most recently volunteered at the 2016 Summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

“In my day job, I’m always facing the computer. Here at events, I am facing people. It becomes a great balance because I can learn soft skills to complement my technical skills, making me a better person," he said.
“Team Nila has also given and taught me a lot, such as leadership and management skills, and it’s a huge opportunity and a privilege for me to be a part of Team Nila."
For once, instead of organising and supporting events, volunteers - most of whom were accompanied by their family members - got to enjoy fun-filled kampung activities as participants.
The event, organised by Sport Singapore, aimed to appreciate the efforts of Team Nila volunteers and celebrate the spirit of volunteerism. It was also a platform to share some of the upcoming activities with Team Nila.

While it was obviously a day off, some volunteers were still actively out and about their stipulated roles, such as photography volunteer Edwin Koh, who wanted to ensure that his friends have their memories of the day captured in pictures.
"It’s very fun and you can make a lot of friends here at Team Nila," said Koh.
