For the time ever in Asia, two competitors – one male, one female - could claim a brand new car by winning the half marathon in Singapore. Organised by innovative homegrown events company X-Change Republic, the YOLO Run – which has expanded from Singapore to Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok and Hong Kong this year, is bringing something extraordinary to the running community in Singapore for its third edition this Saturday, 11 November.
This year’s 2XU YOLO RUN SG features a new race category – the 21KM Alfa Romeo Competizione - where male and female winners stand to drive away with a brand new Alfa Romeo Giulietta Super. In light of Singapore's national record, the winners of the 21KM Alfa Romeo Competizione will be the fastest male and fastest female to finish under the times of 1:09:00 and 1:25:00 respectively - a feat that must be achieved without the assistance of illegal drugs and steroids. Whoever accomplishes these feats would come close or break the current half marathon records held by Mok Ying Ren (1:07:08) and Mok Ying Rong (1:23:14) respectively.
Already, well-known names in the Singapore running scene - including multiple SEA Games Gold Medalist Soh Rui Yong, F1 Runner Founder and Coach Lexus Tan, Singapore Marathoners Jasmine Goh and Rachel See, Olympian Neo Jie Shi and more – have signed up for a crack at this grand prize.
YOLO Run SG is the first running event in Asia to introduce a car giveaway in a race and the Alfa Romeo Giulietta Super is worth S$91,000 (without COE). This game-changing feature makes it the biggest prize for a running event in Singapore as the champion of the Singapore Marathon only pockets S$10,000 and the grand prize of the SIA Charity 10km is a Business Class air ticket worth less than S$20,000.
This Saturday, some 15,000 runners is expected at the 2XU YOLO Run SG (a two-fold increase from the 2016 edition), a fun, performance, and charity run that has made its mark around Asia in the past year. After touring across the region with widely successful events in Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok, Hong Kong, YOLO Run has arrived back in Singapore in style – with an unique partnership with Alfa Romeo for this exciting car give-away.
The 2XU YOLO Run SG promises an exciting and unforgettable experience to all types of runners. With a spirit that draws from the aphorism "You Only Live Once”, YOLO Run encourages participants to seize the day and free themselves from body types and inhibitions. In a celebration of freedom, liberation, and empathy – participants from all race categories are encouraged to run shirtless, where $3/- would be donated by event owners X-Change Republic to the Community Chest Singapore for every runner that crosses the finish line shirtless.
More than just a running event, YOLO Run invites all participants to enjoy a rejuvenating mass outdoor yoga session after the race. YOLO Yoga further encourages participants to free their minds and connect their bodies and souls. Veteran Yogi Jasmine Chong from Yoga Lab will be leading the session of mindful stretching at the 2XU YOLO Run SG this year.
