Team Nila volunteers gathered for a final training session and briefing at the Toa Payoh Sports Complex on Saturday as they get ready to contribute over 35,000 hours to GetActive! Singapore.
The volunteers, who were there as part of their training for the week long sporting bash, were also given roles in the upcoming Singapore National Games 2016 and Children and Families Sports Festival.

“Today, our program is divided into a few components,” said ActiveSG Chief Lai Chin Kwang, as he explained the day’s events.
“One, of course is to warm them to [get] to know each other, to understand the journey of about what we’re trying to do in GetActive! Singapore. After that we go into details with the activities for them to do some team cheering so that they themselves feel the atmosphere and excitement. Finally, it’s to share with them about how they can contribute to GetActive! Singapore.”
As they were taken though their paces in the team bonding exercises, the initially shy volunteers warmed up to the task and began to show their more mischievous, extroverted sides. By the time the program wound to a close, the room was filled with smiles and happy faces.
One of these volunteers is Wilson Mook, who will be volunteering in a sports event for the first time with his wife and two children.

“I want to educate my children about the values of volunteerism and get them to be active. What the GetActive! sport festival means to us is to bond together and be active together as a family,” said the 43-year-old.
