1. A meaningful celebration for Singapore’s 51st birthday.
What better way to celebrate the nation’s 51st birthday than as One Team Singapore? Happening in the lead up to National Day from 30 July to 7 August, the Singapore National Games (SNG)
2016 aims to demonstrate the power of sports in bringing people together and inspire pride and celebration among Singaporeans.
2. There’s a sport for everyone.
Get ready to be spoilt for choice. Whether you’re 10 or 60, there’s a sport for you. SNG 2016 boasts 16 sports and five para sports including adventure race, archery, athletics, badminton, basketball, bowling, canoe marathon, dragon boat, floorball, futsal, hockey 5s, sepaktakraw, swimming, table tennis, tennis and volleyball.
The Games also features five para sports including archery, boccia, bowling, swimming and table tennis.
3. It’s all about inclusiveness.
We’re not leaving anyone out this SNG. Given the number of sports and categories, women will be able to team up with men, and able bodied athletes can team up with athletes with disabilities in a quest for national glory.
4. Compete in unconventional sports such the adventure race!
Complete the GetActive! Adventure Race and emerge as a trooper! Newly-added to the competition menu, the adventure race is a 3.5km obstacles course race for the venturesome – think leopard crawl. In a team of four or individually, test your endurance and overcome challenging obstacles like barricades, canals, tyres and walls. On top of a finisher medal, winning teams will walk away with attractive cash prizes!
5. Enjoy a scenic kayak along the The Float @ Marina Bay.
Everyone and anyone can be a part of the SNG 2016 Public Canoe Challenge – a prime chance to cruise along the scenic waters of The Float @ Marina Bay. On a double sit-on-top kayak, race through a designated 100m course and take the waters as you go. Fastest three teams walk home with attractive souvenirs not to be missed. A fabulous way to feel cool on our hot July days!
6. Compete against or with friends and family!
Ever wanted to compete alongside fellow kakis, colleagues or even family? Various sport categories in SNG 2016 allow you to form your own teams (as long as individuals fulfill SNG’s age requirement), which provides a great opportunity for team-bonding among family, colleagues and friends.
7. It’s great for your body.
Having difficulty finding the time and motivation to hit the gym? Get active and bask in the competitive element of SNG 2016 at the same time! Participating in and training for SNG 2016 will help jumpstart a healthy lifestyle and put in place a workout regime that we promise will be good for you.
8. There are up to 488 events to choose from the 16 sports
If you are already playing a sport and actively pursuing your sports interest, put those skills to the test win yourself a medal in SNG 2016. The Games just got more exciting with a grand total of up to 488 gold medals to be given out this year -- you might just be the next medallist!3 Over $200,000 prize money to be won, but the memories you collect will be the greatest victory of all.
