Team Singapore shooter Tessa Neo won two gold medals in Saturday’s action at the SEA Games winning the Individual 10m Air Rifle competition after being part of the team that won in the same category.

Neo, 17, scored 207.0 in the final to beat cousin and team-mate Jasmine Ser, who finished second with a score of 204.9. Another Team Singapore shooter Martina Lindsay Veloso finished third with 184.0 but the SEA Games rule that no country can sweep all the medals from an individual event, meant that Malaysia’s Abdul Halim Nur Ayuni Farhana was instead, given the bronze.

“I’m very excited to win my first gold in my first games. I was very surprised to win. My coach and parents gave me a lot of support,” said Neo.

Silver medallist, Ser was pleased that the introduction of the team event to the SEA Games had allowed Singapore to prove its strength in depth.

“I did pretty well today and we won the first ever team gold. We were always the strongest team in Southeast Asia but couldn’t get gold because there was no team event at previous Games,” she said.

“I’m glad to see some young aspiring champions coming up. For me personally, I accidentally pulled the trigger too early on of my shots in the finals but I’m still happy we finished in the top three.”
