Team Singapore archer Tan Si Lie is willing to make the necessary sacrifices to shine on the regional stage.
Tan Si Lie was just another freshman looking for a suitable co-curricular activity (CCA) at Ngee Ann Polytechnic’s CCA recruitment fair when he found himself intrigued by the nature of archery and decided to join the school team. He was hooked on the sport soon after and has been an archer ever since.
Watching the bullseye of a target become darkened by the shadow of his arrows provides Si Lie immense satisfaction. As such, he is always excited to hit the range, despite training six times a week.
With such a rigorous training schedule, the final year student from Nanyang Technological University has naturally had to make some sacrifices in his personal life. However, he has recognized the importance of focusing on archery if he is to do well at the upcoming SEA Games and one day represent Singapore at the Olympics.
“Southeast Asia has many strong competitors. However, as I compete, I am always competing to do better than my personal best. I am excited to outdo myself during the Games,” Si Lie shared.
Shining on the world stage is not unfamiliar to Si Lie, after his performance at the 2012 Indoor Archery World Cup, where he did Singapore proud by finishing with a silver medal.
With the 28th SEA Games taking place in Singapore, Si Lie is excited to don national colors in front of his friends and family. He hopes to help the Singapore archery team improve on their medal haul from the previous edition of the regional competition.
