The refurbished Kallang Practice Track was officially relaunched and named as Home of Athletics (HOA) by Singapore Athletics (SA) on Saturday.
SA president Tang Weng Fei and Sport Singapore chief executive officer Mr Lim Teck Yin officiated the momentous occasion as they unveiled HOA in front of attending national athletes and Olympian C.Kunalan.

The HOA’s $4 million facility included a world standard Grade 1 synthetic track and boasted numerous pits for activities such as long jumps and discus.
“The track here at Home of Athletics is fully refurbished and it also has a weights and conditioning room for our athletes,” said SA President Mr Tang, who also revealed that there are plans to build a 200-seater stand, and that the track will be used by athletes for warm-ups during the upcoming SEA Games in June.

With a place to call home, the national athletes are pumped up and raring to go as they make Home of Athletics a regular spot for their training session in the lead-up to the SEA Games.
“It is definitely nice to call a home for the athletes, a place to train. It will boost our confidence as we prepare for the next major event. I hope to give a good fight, get a personal best and of course medals,” said discus athlete Hannah Lee Shin Yan.
The focus was not only on the present but the future as budding athletes were invited to the event to test their hands on the various stations, while national athletes provided them with pointers.
For Shivakumar Desh, he was pleased that his children were able to understand the various elements involved in track-and-field.
“It’s entertaining for the kids and it shows them all different aspect of athletics which they are not usually exposed to in the school environment,” explained Shivakumar.
“They are able to practise different skills, develop and know where their weaknesses are. Being a parent, I am helping them develop at whatever they are good at.
“It sets the fundamental for the sport they take on and channel them to the right sport. Every parent whose kid is involved in sport would want their kids to be representing the country,” added Shivakumar.
