The three winners of the first phase of ActiveSG’s Tennis Quiz Challenge were all smiles during the exclusive meet and greet with WTA tennis star Petra Kvitova.
“It’s a very nice and rare experience, because you hardly ever get the chance to meet world class players in Singapore,” said runner-up Ong Sze Hui, who could hardly contain her excitement at catching the WTA finalist up close. "Thanks to ActiveSG for this wonderful opportunity."
Quiz champion Ryan Low echoed her sentiments: “I hope that ActiveSG can organize this competition every year when WTA comes to Singapore.”
More than 500 tennis fans, much like Sze Hui and Ryan, had participated in the Tennis Quiz Challenge. They worked hard over the three-day competition period to improve their scores, in hopes of securing a chance to meet Kvitova.
Ryan and third-placed Ivan Lam shared the efforts they undertook to climb up the leaderboard.

“I went to research the questions and had multiple tries on the quiz,” said Ivan.
“I played many times to improve my score. After getting a sense of the questions, I tried the quiz again,” Ryan shared.
“By researching to find out the answers, I gained a lot of [tennis] knowledge at the same time.”
ActiveSG’s Senior Manager for Membership Experience & Outreach, Melvin Foo, saw the Tennis Quiz Challenge as an appropriate platform for ActiveSG to reach out to its members via social media channel Facebook.
“Primarily, this quiz raises the awareness of the public as well as existing members to the quality tennis programmes that ActiveSG provides,” he pointed out.
“It would actually interest them to find out more, and then they can discover that we have quite a number of tennis programs, catering to an age range, from the very young, all the way to adults, at varying levels of competency.”
As it stands, the accessibility and pricing of ActiveSG tennis facilities had already won over those present at the meet-and-greet.
“The tennis facilities are very conveniently located and the prices are reasonable, so we get to enjoy the facilities,” Ryan pointed out.

“I go to the Yio Chu Kang tennis courts. It’s actually very accessible, just next to the MRT station and that is important for me,” Sze Hui explained, while revealing that she often relied on the ActiveSG app to secure a spot at the Yio Chu Kang tennis centre.
Besides maintaining these facilities and offering them up for rental via the app, ActiveSG has also made it a point to inculcate an interest in tennis amongst the young, by organizing regular tennis camps and programmes during the school holidays.
Meanwhile, the second phase of the Tennis Quiz Challenge will continue till 31st October, where one lucky ActiveSG member will receive a pair of CAT 1 tickets to the semi-finals of the 2015 WTA Finals.
