Team Singapore floorballers interacted with their supporters, Young Team Singapore Ambassadors (YTSA) through the floorball clinic at Yio Chu Kang Sports Hall on 10 January. The event was organised by Sport Singapore to offer the athletes an opportunity to give back to their fans and supporters who have been and will be rooting for them at the upcoming Southeast Asian (SEA) Games from 5 to 16 June 2015.
The young ambassadors were put through basic drills under the close guidance of the national athletes to learn the fundamentals of floorball such as passing, dribbling and shooting.
While it was not an unfamiliar sport for most with the growing popularity of floorball, it was still a first for many who tried their hands at it. The experience was all the more sweeter as the young ambassadors was coached by the national players.
First timers like Lydia Ratnasary and Siti Sufiyah Nano were thankful for the opportunity.

“It was a really fun and great experience because I get to learn more about floorball. When I first picked up the stick, I did not know what to do. At the end of the clinic, I was able to execute some simple moves and that was so fulfilling!” Lydia shared.
Through the session, the ambassadors also forged closer bonds with the athletes and are looking forward in anticipation to catch them in action at the SEA Games 2015.
“They were very nice and patient towards us. They treated us like friends. Now that we know them personally, we are looking forward to cheering them on at the competition not just as supporters but as friends too!” Siti added.
After winning two gold medals in Myanmar as a demonstration sport, floorball is set to make its full debut in the upcoming edition of the SEA Games. Both the men’s and women’s teams will hope to deliver the medals for Singapore in front of the home crowd.
Team Singapore floorballer, Jill Quek emphasized the importance of the support from fellow Singaporeans.
“Having our countrymen in the crowd will definitely be a morale booster for us. Knowing that we have them behind us gives us extra determination and motivation to do well,” Jill quipped.
