Team Singapore's men's water polo team eased past Hong Kong 13-4 at the Dream Park Aquatics Centre on Thursday as captain Eugene Teo put up a good performance, scoring five of out of the six shots he made.

But despite the win, coach Lee Sai Meng is demanding more from his players.

“They did okay today, considering we have not competed for some time, but they did not do exceptionally well. Maybe it's because this was their first game and they haven't quite gotten used to things yet,” he said.

With regard to what his side could have done better, Lee added: “The boys will need to shoot better in their upcoming games against tougher opposition. They hesistated too much today. But on a positive note, they fought really hard and dominated the game.”

The Singapore side, which is seemingly infallible in Southeast Asia – they have won the Gold medal at the SEA Games a stunning 25 times in a row now - is on the hunt to deliver Singapore's first medal at the Asian Games since 1986, when the men's team won a Bronze in Seoul. But Lee says that the team is not harbouring lofty ambitions of a medal yet as they are focusing on the primary objective of improving on their sixth place finish at the previous edition of the Games in Doha.

The team will next take on South Korea on Friday, and Lee says the team is hardly fazed by the oppostion.

He said: “The players are actually very motivated and looking forward to that game. It has been many years since we last played against one another so we're psyched to take them on.”
