From 7 to 14 September, make sure you head down to the Singapore Sports Hub, OCBC Arena, to support Singapore's netball team as they look to retain their Asian Championship crown against some stiff opposition.
Singapore were victorious in Colombo back in 2012 and have been working hard over the two years since to stay as one of the top teams in the region but when the competition starts next week, the other nine nations taking part will be doing all they can to produce new champions.
The first match for the hosts will be against Japan at 1pm on the opening day and from there they will look to come out on top in the group stages against Vietnam, Hong Kong and India. The next challenge will be a face off against local rivals Malaysia or Sri Lanka who head the other group.
National Coach Ruth Aitken believes her team are as ready as they can be: “We have selected the twelve players that we believe will provide our strongest available options as a team. We have a group of very experienced players alongside three new additions. All of them have worked hard over the past few months to earn their spot in the team and we are now focused on the tough challenge ahead."
Micky (Lin Qingyi) has been handed the task of captaining the side on home soil and is looking for the home supporters to give them that extra nudge they may need.
She said: “It is a great honour to be leading the team for the all important Mission Foods Asian Netball Championships. The team has just returned from our New Zealand and Fiji training tour and we are now in the final phase of preparation for the games. The girls are raring to go and looking forward to an exciting week of netball at the new Singapore Sports Hub and we hope all our fans come out and give us their support.”
