Team Singapore shooter Jasmine Ser made the headlines with her win in the Women’s 50m Rifle 3 Positions Finals. This is the 2nd Gold medal for shooting and the 4th Gold medal that Singapore has secured to date at the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.
Here’s a quick overview of Team Singapore’s progress at the Games yesterday.
It was an exciting Women’s 50m Rifle 3 Positions Finals at the Commonwealth Games that got the nation excited for both Team Singapore shooters Jasmine Ser and Li Yafei.
It was a close affair between Jasmine and Scotland’s Jen MacIntosh as it went down to the final shot. Jasmine nailed it with a score of 9.8 over Jen’s MacIntosh score of 7.9, securing her victory as well as a new Final Commonwealth Games Record of 449.1.
Despite a strong start by Yafei that saw her take 2nd place after the first 5 rounds, she struggled to maintain that performance and had to settle for 5th in the finals.
Despite a stellar silver medal performance yesterday, swim favourite Joseph Schooling was unable to replicate that performance in the Men's 200m Individual Medley Heats, finishing 15th out of 24 competitors with a time of 2:07.04 seconds.
And while our women's swim quartet for the 4x100m medley comprising of Tao Li, Samantha Yeo, Quah Ting Wen and Nur Marina Chan qualified for the finals, they had to pull out of the race at the last moment as Ting Wen was unwell. The girls had finished in 7th place for the qualifying heats with a time of 4:17.43 seconds.
Lynette Lim finished 19th out of 22 competitors for the Women’s 400m Freestyle Heats with a time of 4:22.92 seconds. She did not qualify for finals.
Swimming Men's 4x100m Medley team of Quah Zheng Wen, Christopher Cheong, Joseph Schooling and Clement Lim finished 9th out of 14 teams in the heats with a time of 3:48.01 seconds and failed to secure a place in the finals.
