The Singapore National Olympic Council (SNOC) Games Selection Committee, chaired by Minister Teo Chee Hean, Deputy Prime Minister, Coordinating Minister for National Security, Minister for Home Affairs and President SNOC, met on 25 February to select athletes for the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games and the Nanjing 2014 Youth Olympic Games.

About 70 Team Singapore athletes have made the list after the first round. These athletes come from the following sports; Athletics, badminton, gymnastics, shooting, swimming and table tennis. 6,500 athletes from 70 countries will be competing in 17 sports over 11 days, from 23 July to 3 August 2014 at the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.

Joseph Schooling and Tao Li (above) are expected to give good accounts of themselves in Glasgow, if their current form is anything to go by. It will also be a good chance for them to see where they place amongst the best swimmers in the games. Currently, they are the only two swimmers who have been scheduled to compete in individual butterfly events after meeting the minimum sixth-place benchmark of the last Games set by the SNOC.

Other sports including boxing and judo have also submitted nominations but were told to come back with justifications and the necessary results by 14 March. The panel will convene again on 4 April to decide on these appeals. The final list of athletes will be submitted on 11 June.

Singapore sent 65 athletes to the previous Commonwealth Games held in New Delhi in 2010, and returned home with 11 Golds, 11 Silvers and nine Bronzes.
