Despite it being a competitive event, parents spoken to were less concerned about winning than being able to bond with their children, especially in the Family Fun Speed Skate.

Ang Jong Hiong who participated in the relay-themed skate with his son, said: “We really appreciate that ActiveSG have this initiative to actually to create this for the parents and children through this Inline Skating.

“The competition itself was very fun, from what I saw just now all the activities brought together the families.

“I hope that in years to come there will be more of such activities to cater to the parents.”

Organisers were encouraged by the turnout as well as feedback received from participants, as they continue to strive for a healthier society by promoting exercising.

“At Pasir Ris sports centre we position ourselves as the centre for young families, that is where we have a parent and child competition to get them to bond together through a competition and live better through sports,” said one of the organisers, Amy Tay.

Above all, Tay also hoped that parents would encourage their children to pick up the sport after experiencing the sport first-hand and gaining some kind of familiarity with it.

“The main idea is to introduce the children to the sport, Inline Skating,” she added.

”This a sport that many parents fear that is dangerous, and we want to show them that this sport can bond the family together and the child can boost confidence and character building as well."
