Imagine a diver, with no handrails and safety gear, tip-toeing on the edge of a 10m high platform. He takes a deep breath, before taking a strong leap into the air. He uses all his dynamic core strength to execute 3 complete somersaults and 2 twists, fully extending his arms out to break the surface of the water at 80 km/h, for a splash-less entry into the pool water. A few moments later, the diver surfaces from the 5m deep pool, and hears the crowd roar in approval. He has executed the perfect dive. Perfect 10s from the judges.

Expect top divers from Asia to make a splash at Toa Payoh Swimming Complex from 13-15 September. Singapore will be hosting the Asian Swimming Federation (AASF) 5th Asian Diving Cup, the biennial continental championships.

Our SEA Games 2013 squad made up of Arizir Fong, Kimberly Cha, Fong Kay Yian, Myra Lee, Mark Lee and Timothy Lee have been training hard for the showdown in Myanmar. Expectations are high as the Singapore Swimming Association (SSA) are targeting four medals in the men’s and women’s 3-metre synchronised springboard (two silvers), and the men’s and women’s 10m synchronised platform (two bronzes). The 5th Asian Diving Cup will be a good chance for our SEA Games squad to compete against the best in the continent.

The focus will be on Fong Kay Yian, who finished seventh in the 3m Girls Final in the Asian Youth Games in Nanjing, China. Loh Zhiayi from Malaysia is the only South-east Asian who finished ahead of her. Singapore will also be represented by Jonathan Chan, who represented Singapore in the Asian Youth Games in Nanjing, coming in 5th in the 3 metres springboard finals and 6th in the platform finals.”
