Team Singapore won ten gold medals at the 14th ASEAN+ Age-Group Chess Championship 2013

Team Singapore Players at the Closing Ceremony of the 14th ASEAN+ Age-Group Chess Championships 2013. 

Team Singapore had won a total of 34 Medals at the 14th ASEAN+ Age-Group Chess Championships 2013 organized by the Thailand Chess Federation with the support of the World Chess Federation (FIDE). This includes 20 Team Medals (3 Gold, 8 Silver, and 9 Bronze Medals) and 14 Individual Medals (7 Gold, 1 Silver, and 6 Bronze Medals).

426 competed in the event held in Chiang Mai, Thailand from the 05 June 2013 to 14 June 2013, there were three chess tournaments held throughout the course of 10 days – Standard, Rapid, and Blitz Chess. Each country was allowed to register any number of players to participate in the Under 8, Under 10, Under 12, Under 14, Under 16, and Under 20 Age Groups for Girls and Open. There was also a separate category for Seniors Above 50.

Singapore was represented by 49 of our juniors and 3 senior veterans. The medals came after the Singapore team undergo a week of intensive training prior to the tournament. All junior representatives are from the National Junior Squad and have been undergoing regular trainings at the Singapore Chess Federation.

A total of 13 countries namely Bangladesh, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, India, Laos, Mongolia, Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Taipei and Vietnam participated in the event. Apart from the ASEAN countries, there was also a young representative from Russia.
