The Lion City Cup celebrates its 25th anniversary this year at the Jalan Besar Stadium. From 8-16 June, football fans in Singapore will be treated to the exciting displays from world-class teams from around the globe.

Dutch Eredivisie outfit PSV will bring their centennial celebrations to our shores as their under-15 team hope to emulate AFC Ajax’s success at the 24th Canon Lion City Cup.

Eintracht Frankfurt, one of the founding members of the German Bundesliga, will seek to prove why German football is fast becoming the most dominant brand of football in the world.

The participation of FIFA Club World Cup Champions Corinthians will make it three consecutive times that a Brazilian club will take part in the prestigious Canon Lion City Cup.

Widely acclaimed for having one of the best youth academies in the world, fans can expect to see a future Premier League star when Arsenal grace the Jalan Besar pitch in June.

As always, 2 Singaporean sides in the form of the Under-15 and Under-16 will be looking to make the nation proud by capturing the 25th Canon Lion City Cup trophy.

The National Football Academy (NFA) Under-16 team features a new generation of footballers. Ridiyanti Saswadimata, Irfan Fandi and Adam Nazri will follow in their fathers’ footsteps as they aspire to make a name for themselves.

Ridiyanti is the son of former Singapore international Saswadimata Dasuki while Irfan’s father is none other than Fandi Ahmad, the man who thrilled 30, 000 fans in the first edition of the Lion City Cup in 1977.

Adam’s father is Nazri Nasir, the current coach of the NFA Under-15 team, who are set to make their second appearance in the Canon Lion City Cup.

The family ties continue for the Nazri family as NFA Under-15 will look to Amer Nazri for inspiration. The star defender was voted the Most Valuable Player for his team at the tournament last year.

The tournament has unearthed Singaporean stars such as V. Sundramoorthy, Shahril Ishak and Hariss Harun who both play for the LionsXII. Recent alumni also include Bryan Neubronner and Adam Swandi who are both plying their trade in Europe with SSV Ulm 1846 of Germany and FC Metz of France, respectively.

25 years of history and tradition. 25 years of creating legends. Who will be the next star to steal the spotlight and lead his team to glory at the 25th Canon Lion City Cup?
