The National Football Academy (NFA) Under-16 team features a new generation of footballers. Ridiyanti Saswadimata, Irfan Fandi and Adam Nazri will follow in their fathers’ footsteps as they aspire to make a name for themselves.
Ridiyanti is the son of former Singapore international Saswadimata Dasuki while Irfan’s father is none other than Fandi Ahmad, the man who thrilled 30, 000 fans in the first edition of the Lion City Cup in 1977.
Adam’s father is Nazri Nasir, the current coach of the NFA Under-15 team, who are set to make their second appearance in the Canon Lion City Cup.
The family ties continue for the Nazri family as NFA Under-15 will look to Amer Nazri for inspiration. The star defender was voted the Most Valuable Player for his team at the tournament last year.
The tournament has unearthed Singaporean stars such as V. Sundramoorthy, Shahril Ishak and Hariss Harun who both play for the LionsXII. Recent alumni also include Bryan Neubronner and Adam Swandi who are both plying their trade in Europe with SSV Ulm 1846 of Germany and FC Metz of France, respectively.
