The Indoor Archery Youth Cup Singapore is back once again after a successful run last year. The competition was held at ITE Simei and it saw over 100 youths consisting of both local and international archers.

Many of the Singapore archers fared well in the Recurve ‘A’ division of the Indoor Archery Youth Cup this year. The winners from both the male and female of the category were Justin Ng and Tang Xin Hui from Singapore respectively.

Justin said, “I feel very happy to have won the tournament because I didn’t do as well last year. Initially, my aim was to enter the SEA games but I was disappointed to not make it through the selection process. For now, my aim is just to do well in whatever competitions that come my way!”

The Singapore youth archers really made a name for themselves at this year’s Indoor Archery Youth cup by clinching 12 podium finishes out of the 32 medals that were awarded. This marks a bright start for Singapore youth archers as they strive harder to make it to the top and spread the good word of archery to the masses.

This year, the Indoor Archery World Cup was held before the Archery Youth Cup and it saw a few prominent figures. Oscar Wilde from USA beat fellow countrymen Logan Wilde to retain his third consecutive compound men’s gold. Frenchmen Valladont ousted India’s Rai in a tough match up to attain the recurve men’s gold medal.

Depending on their finishing positions, the archers will be looking forward to attain more world ranking points to qualify for the series final in Las Vegas, USA next February.

After his win, Valladont commented that Singapore is a great place to hold the archery competition but more people need to know more about the sport because the publicity of archery in Singapore is still growing.
