What did over 3000 women in Singapore have in common last Saturday on the 9th of November? They spent an entire day sweating it out in the name of fitness and good fun.
These women, ranging in age from young adults to mature ladies, came together for Amore Women's Day Out 2013 (AWDO), which was held at Ngee Ann City Civic Plaza on 9 November. Currently in its 8th year, AWDO is still going strong and is better than ever.
Kicking off from 9 in the morning, participants enjoyed a full hour of aerobics and kickboxing. The stretching exercises also helped perk up anyone who was still feeling sleepy on the early Saturday morning. Besides a jam-packed schedule of dancing and working out, Civic Plaza also played hosts to a range of fringe activities throughout the day.
The pace picked up with the next segment, which were dance routines that incorporated belly dancing and Bollywood moves.
“My favourite part of the day is the dancing, especially the latino and salsa dances,” enthuses Linda Wee, who has been attending AWDO since 2008.
The dancing continued in the evening with a segment called ‘Dance Beats’, which included hip hop dance moves, but not before more aerobics in the afternoon.
For Nurul Jannah, 25, the aerobic and yoga sessions were the best parts of the programme.
“I’m here to try something new from Amore, to see what their exercises are like,” she says.
Fast-paced dancing and high intensity workouts have been a staple of AWDA since its inception, and it prides itself on bringing together women from all walks of life to celebrate fitness and health.
“[I can] keep fit [and] meet some friends,” says Jan Nee, who attended the event for the first time this year.
Although tickets for individual segments were available for sale, most participants chose to purchase full day passes to enjoy the full range of activities.
For Jannah, although aerobics was the highlight for her, she also expresses satisfaction at the dances as there were “a wide variety of [dance steps]” that she has not been exposed to before.
Despite its energetic workouts, AWDO ensures participants are in good shape to enjoy them by engaging them in warm up and cool down sessions before and after each segment.
