Tiger Street Football crowned a new champion in Singapore as team MNA emerged as winners in the national competition held at the Event Plaza@Marina Bay Sands on October 18, Friday.
A packed crowd witnessed MNA seeing off Dorset Boyz (A) 8-6 in a pulsating final at the end of the one day event, with the game played in a unique caged, hard court pitch with no side-lines and comprises two six-minute halves with a two-minute halftime period.
The national finals, featuring 32 teams, showcased a spectacle of flairs and diverse styles associated with the 5-a-side street football with the audience also catching a glimpse of former FIFA world player of the year Fabio Cannavaro in action in a celebrity match with the members of the media as well as current and former players from the Singapore international, namely Juma’at Jantan, Isa Halim and Lionel Lewis.
Fresh from their victory, MNA’s captain Safwan Ramlan was delighted with the outcome and is looking forward to represent Singapore in the Tiger Street Football Grand Finals at the end of the year.
“We came into this tournament knowing that there were a lot of good teams out there, that’s why we didn’t expect to win.” said Safwan to Voxsports after the tournament
“We were the underdogs and we just played all out. I really need credit to give my team because actually two of us were supposed to go off early, but we just put everything aside to commit everything to this.”
“Some of the team members have already represented Singapore before. For the rest of us I think it’s a good experience… most of us don’t really get the chance to represent Singapore.”

As winners of the tournament, MNA was presented a cheque of USD3,000 by Fabio Cannavaro and will represent Singapore in the Tiger Street Football Grand Finals which will be held in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam on 9 November.
This year, the top four teams (MNA, Dorset Boyz (A), Touch N Go, and Teban Thunder F.C.) will get the opportunity to compete against four invited international teams to win additional cash prizes in Saturday’s (October 19) International Finals, which will be held at the same venue. The four international teams hail from Italy, Germany, Malaysia and Vietnam.
