Since the inaugural Nations Cup hosted by Netball Singapore back in 2006, the event has attracted teams from across the continents and produced some world-class competition for all the spectators to marvel at.

The 2012 edition will be no exception with Singapore going up against five nations including Tanzania, Namibia and local rivals Malaysia from 2nd to 8th December at the Toa Payoh Sports Hall.

Singapore will be looking to continue their fine form from their recent success at the Asian Championships where they regained the title which they last won in 2005 after beating Sri Lanka in a closely fought final.

Last year’s Nations Cup saw the hosts finish in second place behind a strong and dynamic Fijian side. Leading by example were Co-Captains Jean Ng and Lin Qingyi who will once again be a crucial part of the team’s defence.

Jean has now reached an amazing landmark in her netballing career, earning her 100th cap during a Test Series in Fiji in July. She is the most capped player in Singapore and is bowing out of the National team after the Nations Cup. She is a remarkable role model for the younger players and her determination and commitment over the years has been outstanding. She made her first appearance during the 1999 World Championships aged 21 and has collected many medals and memories along the way.

She said, “This achievement does not adequately describe the wonderful journey and rich experience I have had with the team that have greatly enriched my life: the bonds of friendship, honour of proudly flying the Singapore flag, the highs and lows of competitive sport and the privilege of playing with, against and alongside the best in the world.

“I owe a lot to my coaches, team mates, administrators, medical support team, who have helped me along the way.”

She’ll be hoping to finish her playing career with one more medal to add to her collection at this December. Make sure you get down to Toa Payoh Sports Hall to support Jean and the rest of the team in their quest for the Nations Cup 2012 Trophy.
