Team Singapore went out in full force to celebrate the nation’s 50th Golden Jubilee weekend.

Our athletes and para athletes took part in festivities across the island, from promoting healthy living during the ActiveSG SG50 Jubilee Weekend to the leading the way during the vertical marathon at Marina Bay Sands and the Heartstrings Walk 2015.

They capped the weekend off in style as a contingent took part in the National Day Parade at the Marina Bay floating platform where they sang songs, danced and partied with members of the public.

Despite their record breaking feats, Team Singapore athletes have shown a great willingness to engage and give back to the community as they participated in the various activities over the weekend.

ActiveSG Jubilee Weekend

Silat exponent and SEA Games Gold medallist Alfian Juma’en, who was involved in the activities during the ActiveSG SG50 Jubilee Weekend, said he was really happy to get the chance to mingle with his neighbours and other members of the community during this celebratory season.

“It’s not often that we get this chance as we’re always busy with training... and this holiday is a chance for everyone to mix together."

He added that he felt “blessed and grateful for the support” during the recent SEA Games and promised Singaporeans can expect more from him in the future. "Hopefully I will be a world champion one day and I want to inspire the young ones (to take up silat),” said Juma'en.

Community Heartstrings

10,000 participants including para-athletes from Team Singapore took part in the Community Heartstrings walk at Marina Bay on Friday. The charity walk collected donations for the community chest and every dollar raised was matched by the government under the Care & Share Movement for SG50.

Bowler Jazreel Tan, who was also at the parade, was immensely grateful for the support that she had during the SEA Games. “It was remarkable to go in front of the home crowd and have everybody supporting you at once,” she said.

Tan led the recitation of the Singapore pledge together with water-polo player Paul Tan and floorballer Syazni Ramlee in front of 30,000 people at the floating platform.
