ActiveSG SG50 Jubilee Weekend promises 4 days of fun and fitness for the family

Singaporeans from all walks of life braved the wet weather to try their hand at 50 different sports on the first of four days of sporting activities organised nationwide in celebration of Singapore’s golden jubilee.

Sports centres in Jurong East, Seng Kang, Toa Payoh, Pasir Ris and Yio Chu Kang have been designated as “celebration zones” and will be organising tryouts for wide range of games and sports. Besides being able to try out a new sport, residents will also get free admissions to ActiveSG gyms and swimming pools across Singapore over the holiday weekend.
Jurong resident Iris Ng said that she was at the Jurong Sports Centre to try out Zumba and Piloxing. “We can come to try out different types of exercise and I think it’s a very good initiative and (creates) awareness as well” she said.

Piloxing instructor Jeffrey Lim also added that after trying out the programs for free residents can sign up for classes via the ActiveSG smartphone app if they want to learn more about the various exercises.
Team Singapore athletes also took the time to interact with members of their community when they took part in a floorball clinic and water telematch. Delvin Goh a member of the men’s basketball team said: “The purpose of this event is for us to interact with the public”.

When asked about the event archery team member Ang Han Teng added: “I see that all the kids and adults are really enthusiastic (about the games).”
Besides the 50 sport tryouts and free admission to its facilities, ActiveSG has also organised screenings of the National Day Parade at its Pasir Ris and Seng Kang Sport Centres on 9 August.
