There are still seven days of competition remaining in the 28th SEA Games but Team Singapore has already won a record number of medals for the Republic.

Swimmer Quah Zheng Wen won Singapore’s 51st gold medal at the Games on Tuesday after he won the men’s 400m Individual Medley finals at the OCBC Aquatic Centre this evening (9 June).

Quah’s win meant that Team Singapore exceeded their best ever SEA Games gold medal haul of 50 set in 1993 – the last time Singapore hosted the multi-sport event.

The record-equalling 50th gold came when swimmer Tao Li triumphed in the women’s 100m Backstroke.

Quah's gold was the 14th won by the Republic’s swimmers at these Games. Canoeing, with seven golds, and wushu and table tennis with six golds each) have contributed the most to Singapore's impressive start to the Games and Team Singapore has been on top of the medal table throughout the opening days.
