An eventful night for Singapore’s swimmers saw a combination of records smashed and a medal haul of six Golds, as the packed crowd at the OCBC Aquatic Centre enjoyed another great night of action  and success in the water.

Tao Li had already broken the 50m Backstroke Games Record during the morning’s heats and she did it again in the first race of the evening, picking up an incredible 26th career SEA Games gold medal with a new personal best time of 28.90 seconds. Even better, Tao’s team-mate, Shana Lim picked up the silver medal with her time of 29.36.

Then came Joseph Schooling in the men’s 50m Freestyle where his time of 22.47 not only won him a gold medal, a personal best and Games record; he also broke Ang Peng Siong’s national record of 22.69, set back in Aug 1982, by the Singaporean swimming legend. Schooling was back in the water later for the 200m Fly where the 19-year-old sensation had the statisticians busy again - his time of 1:55.73 won him his fourth gold in as many races and was a new Games Record, National Record and Personal Best.

Quah Zheng Wen took Silver behind Schooling with his time of 1:56.79 also being his personal best.

In the Women’s 100m Freestyle Finals, Quah Ting Wen won gold and broke yet another Games Record with a time of 55.93 and shortly afterwards, her brother Quah Zheng Wen also won gold in the men’s 200m backstroke with  another new Games Record of 2.00.55.

Roanne Ho won silver in the 100mBreaststroke with a personal best time of 1:11.78 and Samantha Yeo (1:11.87) picked up bronze.

The night ended in grand style with the women’s 200m Freestyle Relay team of Christie May Chue, Amanda Lim, Rachel Marjorie Tseng and Quah Ting Wen winning gold with a time of 8:12.95.
