Two More Swim Triumphs Take Team Singapore to Seven Golds on Opening Day

Team Singapore clinched two more swimming gold medals in Friday evening’s session at the OCBC Aquatic Centre to end the opening day of the 8th ASEAN Para Games with four wins in the water.

Theresa Goh won the women’s 100 metres breaststroke SB4  to add to her women’s 100 metres freestyle S5 win from the morning to the delight of her cheering fans.

Goh’s time of 2:02.02 set a new games record and she has now won 24 gold medals across all 8 editions of the ASEAN Para Games.

Toh Wei Soong also set a new APG record with a time of 1:05.46 as he burst to gold medal in the men’s freestyle S8 race.

The success in the pool meant that Singapore ended the opening day of competition with a total of seven gold, four silver and two bronze medals.

 

Shooting

Two of the silver medals came from Team Singapore shooter Logaraj S/O Raju in the P1 10m Air Pistol Men SH1 and Ritchie Chan in the R1 10m Air Rifle Standing Men SH1.

In the round-robin men’s match against Indonesia, Team Singapore fell to a 13-3 defeat to Indonesia but will be hoping for better when they take on Malaysia on Saturday. The women’s team had a closer encounter, narrowly missing out 7-5 in their round-robin match with Malaysia. Laos will play against Team Singapore on Saturday next.

In the men’s Team Class 3 preliminary round, Team Singapore paddlers were edged 3-0 by Indonesia while the Class 10 men fell 3-1 to Thailand.
