Participants of the West Coast Mazda Run got their "engines" going for the New Year as West Coast Community Centre (CC) organised its first run of 2015.

The race was part of the initiative from West Coast CC to celebrate SG50 as a community and to coincide it with the commencing of upgrading works to its facilities.

The West Coast Mazda Run 2015 included two categories: the 6km and 1.2km family fun run with its starting point at the West Coast Park’s jetty lawn.

The 6km run flagged off at 8am and the race route allowed the participants to run through the scenic coastline of West Coast Park and the green corridor via the West Coast Park Connector.

Many of the first-time runners enjoyed their experience and shared that they hoped to participate in similar events in the future.

“I happened to chance upon this run through the website and some of the banners that I saw around. The distance was quite short so I thought it was manageable for me as a first-timer so I signed up for it,” 45-year-old Noor Azidi said.

One of the participants, Amelia Loo, ran in the 6km race alongside her two friends.

“The experience was fun, especially when I see a lot of people running. It’s hard to explain, but to me, being able to see everyone finish their race is just a great feeling,” Loo said.

“We really came here to enjoy ourselves and get some fun out of it. At the same time, we are trying to test our stamina as well. Our goal was to hit the finishing line actually.

“We actually just started out. We were interested before, but we never knew how the registration goes about and slowly, we got the hang of it and that's when we start. We hope we will join more running events in future.”

Fringe events like Kpopx fitness demonstrations, abseiling for the children and table tennis were also available for the runners to participate in at the end of their race.
