Corporate Community Games comes to a close

Over the span of the three weekends, the corporate community proved that they were not just all about work, and could walk the talk at the Corporate Community Games (CCG) 2014.

The likes of ExxonMobile proved they were the best at bowling, while the Sport Singapore (SportSG) mixed team ruled the roost over at netball.

While there were pride and bragging rights at stake, the atmosphere was never tense, as the various corporate workers mingled and bonded.

“CCG is a good initiative. It is a good chance for colleagues to come together and in SS that’s what we are trying to get everyone to do, be active in Sport. It is good to meet people from other company and enjoy a day of netball. We really enjoyed ourselves,” said Pearline Chan, captain of SportSG's netball mixed team.

Chan’s sentiment was echoed by Ailing Zhang, captain of Deloitte netball women’s team.

“At work we are quite serious, here it is a good opportunity to get to know each other better. This CCG is a good initiative to get the different companies together and we get to meet one another to create new friendship,” explained Zhang.

The Games may have ended, and companies have managed to foster tighter relations both within and outside the firms.

However, there was not all the benefits that was felt, as most claimed that they had also managed to unearth potential leaders through the Games.

“For any sport and not only futsal, there will always be the leader in the team and teamwork, and we need someone to lead the team,” DBS Futsal team player Sebastian Tan said.

“So sport is a good platform to nurture leadership and this will definitely have a positive effect on them and in the workplace."

There will another year to go before the next edition of the CCG but some participants were already looking forward to it even though the event just ended.

“This year’s CCG feels better... more organised, they are well-stocked with food supplies which we could help ourselves to,” Seagate badminton team captain John Soh said. “I can’t wait to see how much more it will improve next year.”
