Bedok's residents will have a sports hub of their own in the near future as the Bedok Integrated Complex (BIC) at Bedok Town Centre was announced by grassroots leaders.

The announcement was made officially at a Groundbreaking Ceremony on 26 July 2014, with Sport Singapore working with the People's Association for the project.

The occasion was graced by Senior Minister of State Mr Lee Yi Shyan, Minister of State Dr Mohd Maliki Osman and Minister Lim Swee Say.

"In the design of the BIC, we endeavoured to incorporate amenities that cater to all age groups and are family-friendly. We hope in this way our Bedok residents can strengthen their bonds together,” said Mr Lee Yi Shyan, Adviser to East Coast GRC GROs.

BIC is part of the Sports Facilities Master Plan and Sport Singapore's 2030 vision to offer the masses an equal opportunity to sports, and to enjoy a healthy lifestyle.

The complex is slated to hold six sheltered tennis courts, a sports hall with eight badminton courts, and two sepak takraw and silat courts. The sports centre will also have five pools for leisure and and training purposes.

In addition to supporting the BIC's infrastructure, Sport Singapore will also offer programmes through ActiveSG to foster a healthy regime.

Residents were given a preview of some possible programmes at the ceremony, with booths set up to allow the public to try their hands at sports such as land flippaball and the likes.

Chief Executive Officer of Sport Singapore, Mr Lim Teck Yin, said: "I think the event has been an important introduction to the community about what is in store for them and what is going to be built."

"When you have a facility right next to where you live, I think there is no excuse why you can't spend a few minutes everyday having a good work out with your family."
