The ActiveSG Sports Festival kicked off at Jurong East Sports Complex on 24 May, with a line-up of exciting activities occurring throughout the day.

Masala Bhangra, Lyrical Hip Hop and fitness workshops – these were just a few of the activities offered to the public.

However, what stole the spotlight for the day was the Korean pop dance competition and workshop, as well as the water carnival and foam party.

Following a slew of dance performances, the stage was set for a battle of the K-pop dance groups.

From youths to working adults, the competition showcased a cornucopia of colours, sounds and moves. A panel of three judges was also present to offer constructive criticism to the dances after each performance.

For team Equilibrium, it was their first time participating in such a competition.

Team member Namyo Lim commented, “It’s very fun and very enjoyable…All the music and all the lighting is very good, and it feels very fun!

“Because most of us are working, to relieve our stress we balance it with dancing.”

“It’s a very new experience for us as a group altogether to join a competition…We joined this because we wanted to see where we stand, somewhere in Singapore,” added his teammate Cha Ming Hui.

Nila the SEA Games mascot (below) also made an appearance at the event, grooving along to the rhythmic K-pop beats.

Next on the itinerary was a massive water carnival that drew in both the young and old. While some children played around with colourful floats, others went atop the water slide.

A water playground was also available for toddlers to explore together with their parents, and families also took part in the Aqua Zumba workshop held in the wavepool.

The day’s activities were fun-filled and enjoyable for participants of all ages. Moreover, for most of the kids, the highlight of the water carnival came with a overflowing tub of soapy suds – a foam party (below) was held as well, with watchful helpers around to ensure the children’s safety.

“It’s actually quite fun and there’s a lot of things we can do… Later on we’ll go to the bigger slides and the wavepool,” commented Zulhemy, who came to the sports festival with his family.

His father Ibrahim agreed readily, saying: “It’s very good for family bonding. We are all very stressed from work and study, so with this opportunity we can have fun.”
