Member-centric, sports-focused and lifestyle-driven. That was the message visitors walked away with after their visit to the ActiveSG launch and open house at Jurong West Sports Centre on 26 April (Saturday).

Parents who turned up with their children and youths alike soaked in the carnival-like atmosphere with their friends at the open house which was graced by Acting Minister for Culture, Community and Youth, Mr Lawrence Wong. Many of our favourite Team Singapore athletes were also present to mingle with the crowd and spread the message of living better through sport.

Starting the morning with a ‘Walk & Jog’ at the stadium compound, heartlanders were then treated to a fun-filled water carnival at the pool.

Under the watchful eyes of the demonstrators and lifeguards, visitors were enjoying their visit to the open house with the ‘Fun Slalom & Fun Olympic Water Carnival’. There were three sessions at the pool, one conducted in the morning and the other two towards the end of the open house.

For the more adventurous ones, they had the opportunity to test their strength at the aqua rockwall (below).

With it being a weekend, it was no surprise that many people, like 30-year-old Michael Lim, brought their spouses and young ones to the open house.

“This is only my third time visiting the pool here. Since it is my off day, I thought why not bring my family along. They enjoyed their visit here and thank to Sport Singapore for organising this,” said the Jurong West resident.

All activities are tailored specifically to ensure that visitors have a truly memorable experience at the open house. These new initiatives and programmes were made possible under the ActiveSG movement.

As one of the key recommendations under the Vision2030 , ActiveSG is an all-encompassing and inclusive national movement for sport where all can experience the joy of living better through sport.

The organisation is gearing towards a sporting ecosystem that provides innovative programming through a network of sporting spaces.

Divided into five sections, the open house centred around the following themes, ‘Get Active Zone’, ‘Carnival Zone, ‘Free Play Zone’, ‘Health and Fitness Zone’, and ‘Redemption Zone’.

The Redemption zone was probably the busiest part towards the end of the day as visitors lined-up to sign up for the newly-launch ActiveSG membership. 30,000 people have already activated their membership on the first day alone.

Singaporeans and PRs can sign-up as an ActiveSG member via www.myactivesg.com, or at any of the Sports Centres island-wide.

Over at the football pitch, the later part of the day saw visitors trying their hands and feet at archery, football, hockey, tennis, and ultimate frisbee (below).

Doing their part to promote sports in Singapore were coaches Hairi Su’ap and Raziff Onn from Warriors Football Club, cerebral palsy football team coach Zainudeen and former football national team captain T.Pathmanathan.

There were also other fringe activities including games stalls, balloon sculpture, airbrush tattoos, food stalls and merchandise stalls selling lifestyle products. The game stalls saw kids having a ball of a time as they tried out activities such as basketball, hoop a ring, foot the ball and Wii sports.

Visitors to the open house also got to try out various studio programmes offered by ActiveSG, including Bokwa (below), Masala Bhangra, Piloxing and Zumba.
