Local gymnasts star in tenth S'pore Open

The 10th Crocodile Singapore Open Gymnastics Championships kicked off on 6 June 2013, and will continue over the course of thee weekends, seeing both local and international participants compete (photo by Lee Jingyi).
Singapore, 17 June 2013 - Team Singapore Women’s Artistic Gymnasts (WAG) Joey Tam and Lim Heem Wei managed to clinch first and second positions in the Beam discipline with a score of 12.750 and 12.250 at the Crocodile Singapore Gymnastics Open Championships 2013
. Fellow national gymnast Zeng Qiyan managed to come in third for both the Vault and Bars discipline, finishing closely behind Malaysian gymnasts Farah Ann Abdul Hadi and Tan Ing Yueh.
The annual Singapore Gymnastics Open Championships is back again this year in its tenth installment, taking place over three weekends at the Bishan Sports Hall for the categories of Men and Women’s Artistic and Rhythmic Gymnastics, both local and international. The championships witnessed over four hundred passionate gymnasts from all over the world and all ages taking part in the event over the course of four days.

The opening weekend of 6-9 June saw the Men’s and Women’s Artistic Gymnastics take centre stage, with a variety of disciplines, including the Pommel Horse, Vault, Balance Beam, Floor Exercise and Parallel Bars. The first competing day on the 7th of June focused mainly on younger participants from the Kinder levels.
Participants as young as ten years old challenged the various categories, showcasing their hard-trained skills as they tackled their obstacles with amazing strength and posture. The following two days saw the older participants taking the stage at the competition. The will continue on with the FIG sanctioned Rhythmic Gymnastics events, with the national level event held between 28th and 30th June and the international level event between 4th and 7th July at Bishan Sports Hall.
