Corporate Community Games 2013 Off to a Flyer
Over 500 members of the local corporate community converged on Kallang Riverside Park early on the morning of 2 March as the Corporate Community Games (CCG) 2013 got off to the best start possible.
Guest-of-honour for the day, Mr Lawrence Wong, Acting Minister for Culture, Community and Youth, together with members of the senior management from Singapore Sports Council and Ministry of Culture Pte Ltd were given a rousing reception as the team captains of each corporate team were handed their customised CCG flag and captains’ armband as part of the CCG’s curtain raiser.
Few would have expected the level of competition to be as intense when it comes to businesses competing in sport, but both Dragon Boat and Running Relay events ignited a spirit in the teams that was competitive yet communal at the same time. It wasn’t simply about winning however, as everyone who took part in the day’s events came away with more than they had hoped for.
Out of office and into sports
“I think the Games (CCG) are an excellent way to get the corporate community out of the office and into getting involved in sports,” said 29 year-old financial analyst Leon Ng, who works for Master Card.
“I was called up into the Dragon Boat team pretty last minute to be honest, and I was reluctant at first, but I do not have any regrets at all now.”
Holding his company flag aloft with pride, Accenture team captain Wong Boon Kiat did not participate in the day’s 2 events but will be competing in the CCG’s futsal competition as goalkeeper on the 23 and 24 March.
He added with a wry smile, “It is something we have all been looking forward to, and a good break away from work. I am not as fit as a I used to be so now I can only be a goalkeeper in a sport like futsal, but it’s a start!”
