Months of grueling trainings and body punishing exercises have finally paid of for the Singapore fighters who won all the matches at ONE Fighting Championships: Total Domination held at the Singapore Indoor Stadium on October 18th.
The first three matches for the night were all the Undercard category consisting of local fighters and the local fans stood up in adoration to support fighting prospects in Singapore. It seemed like a showdown between Malaysia and Singapore once again as these two countries have a long competitive rivalry in the MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) scene.
Malaysia vs Singapore
Stephen Langdown from Singapore buzzed off the night with an entertaining fight against Malaysia’s Marc Marcellinus. The fighters were rarely seen brawling on the ground for submission and takedowns, rather, it was a full on stand-up fight. The fight ended with Langdown throwing a barrage of knee and punching combos that ended the night early for Marcellinus as it result in a TKO (Strikes) at 1:49 in the first round.
In the next match, Juan Wen Jie from Singapore took on Alex Lim from Malaysia and like the previous fight, this match was predominantly a stand-up fight. Juan's powerful blows were too much for Lim as he left the latter with bloodied cuts, testament to the power and finesse of the Singapore fighter. Lim was seen taunting Juan several times during the fight, however, Juans’ determination and focus in the second round gave him the edge as he scored a TKO (Strikes) against Lim with a devastating left hook.
A happy Juan stated that though he won the fight, he could not stick to his initial game plan as he was expecting Lim to charge at him. He also expressed how important family support was in making him the fighter that he is today. Juan said, “I think that family support is very important in my career. In fact, my mom actually bought me a groin guard this morning!”
Sherilyn Lim of Singapore (facing camera) overcame Malaysia's Ann Osman in her match, finishing off with a brutal ground-and-pound (photo by BP Chua/SSC).
The other local female fighter Sherilyn Lim also expressed how her whole family came to watch her fight. During her bout, she overpowered Ann Osman from Malaysia by a slight edge by gaining the advantage of her opponent on the ground striking with her brutal ground-and-pound.
That concluded the night for the Singaporean fighters as they each emerged victorious, paving the way for possibly a new era of fight potential to be groomed in Singapore.
